Story

As I have recently turned 60, I have been doing endurance events for the last 8 years.  Last year during lockdown, there were no events, so to make up for it and to celebrate my 60th birthday, I am doing Man vs Trinity.  3 events starting July 4th, then July 17th and September 4th.  The first event is Man vs Coast and is in Cornwall 25 miles along the coast and ending in Lands End.  The second event is 30 miles in the Lake District.  And the last event is only 22 miles; however, it's up and over Snowdon.  Unfortunately, the last event was cancelled and rescheduled for September 3rd, 2022.

However, in true spirit, I have decided to do a 60 mile ultra marathon on The Isle of Arran on April 9th as a warm up.  I will be 1 year older than the number of miles I will be running.  So if you can give, please do so.

Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale have always supported older members of our local communities who have little or no family support. As the Coronavirus crisis continues to hit, and with friends and family members still self-isolating, the number of people requiring our support has risen immensely and additional requests for assistance continue to be received daily. On the ground local charities offering vital services with small infrastructures such as ours are in desperate need of support to keep going and meet demand. The loss of our planned fundraising activity income during this time will be in the thousands and as many of our housebound clients do not have cash at home as we are having to carry out the shop and then take online payments later over the telephone, and as a local charity with limited funds this is taking its toll on our resources. We are asking - please consider helping our local community, our local charity and those most vulnerable at this time of need.

Any support you can give would be greatly appreciated.  My goal is to make £1,500 for Age Connects Cardiff.  Thank you, in advance.

About the charity

It’s a sad reality that older people are particularly vulnerable to social isolation or loneliness owing to loss of friends and family, mobility or income. It can be a terrible and frightening experience to see no-one for days on end. Every one of us is getting older, and regardless of circumstance it is something that we will all have to contend with. Hopefully, most people have the benefit of friends and family to help them along life’s journey. Sadly, many older people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan do not have this security and are all alone facing the uncertainty that old age can often bring. They may be recovering from illness or bereavement, struggling to cope financially or cope in any one or a dozen of ways. At Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale they find practical help and advice and people who care about the challenges they face. Our local charity makes a huge difference to the lives of so many older people who have nowhere else to turn and often are vulnerable, isolated and in poverty.
