Story

Everest in England

I’d like to start by thanking you for taking the time to check out my fundraiser for the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

In February earlier this year I was involved in a serious incident whereby I severed an artery, leaving my life in the hands of the surgeons at the Northern General Hospital. Not only did they succeed in saving my life, but the nurses and physio team did an outstanding job in ensuring that the only permanent damage I incurred was a nasty scar- a small price to pay if you ask me.

I feel as though the sheer amount gratitude I hold for all of the staff involved simply cannot be expressed through words. It is because of this that I have decided to embark upon my very own Everest in England journey (inspired by Peter Owen-Jones’ respective book), whereby over a 12 day period I will travel across England, walking some of its most famous Tors and peaks until I have reached the altitude of 29,000 feet! (The height of Everest)

I will be starting on the 15th August with Brea Hill in Cornwall and then finishing on the 26th at the peak of Scafell Pike.

As I said earlier, the amount of gratitude I hold for the workers at the Northern General is immeasurable and I will forever be indebted to them. It would therefore mean the world to me if you could donate to my cause (Sheffield Hospitals Charity)- no matter how small, every little helps!

Following my accident I was told by various nurses that they had never seen somebody lose so much blood and survive. Unfortunately, due to having had such a large transfusion, I will never be able to donate blood in my lifetime. I understand that financial donations may not be viable for all so I ask that, whether you choose to contribute to my cause or not, you and those around you seriously consider donating blood as that is yet another debt I will never be able to repay.

I’ll be posting daily updates throughout my journey both on this page through my Strava and over all of my socials.

One final thanks is to Peter Owens-Jones (not that I think he’ll see this) for providing the inspiration and doing the hard work of selecting the climbs and routes! So check out his book if this sort of thing takes your fancy.
