Story

I'm attempting two of the Three Peak Challenges, along with friend and colleague, Dek Traylor. On 31 July we are walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge - a 24-mile walk, including 1585m of ascent over the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, in under 12 hours.

Then, on 25 September, we’re attempting the National Three Peaks Challenge over Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon. This includes a 23-mile walk, including 3064m of ascent over the three mountains, along with a 462-mile drive in between…all to be completed within 24 hours!

Why Kirkwood?

In 2011, my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In 2012 she was admitted to Kirkwood for the final time. I was serving in the military and lived hundreds of miles away. Kirkwood could provide her with the specialist care and attention she needed when she needed it the most. I will be forever grateful for the care they gave when I couldn't. The scary thing about places like Kirkwood is that you don't realise how valuable they are until you need them.

About the charity

The Kirkwood exist to improve the quality of life for local people, against all the odds. We help those in our care to live well and make the most of every single day. We make the complex simple by focussing on what’s important. And we support families and loved ones to live on − and live well.
