Story

On August 2016 John (Matt’s Step Dad) was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. The moment you hear that a family member has been diagnosed with Cancer, your world gets tipped upside down. Unfortunately, this is becoming more of a regular occurrence for many families,  with research showing that more than 1 in 3 people would develop cancer at some point in their lives.

Most people who are reading this will have been affected in one way or another, by the dreaded 'C' word.

My brother was the one to tell me the news that John had Pancreatic Cancer and your first instinct is to go on Google and begin to look into it. If you do, will you find the below;

The 5 year survival rate is just 3%.Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all cancers.It is the only cancer that has seen no improvement in this figure of the last 40 years.So as soon as you hear that news the stop watch starts ticking...

John passed away on September 16th 2018 after bravely living with the horrible disease.

The situation facing pancreatic cancer sufferers will be different in years to come but as it stands, this is a hugely underfunded area of the disease that gets nowhere near the publicity it deserves. So that is where we come in.

In September 2019, 5 of us will travel to the tip of Scotland for the challenge of JOGLE - John O’Groats to Land’s End. But who are the not so famous five undertaking this challenge?

The Bikestreet Boys (let’s hope that name sticks) met at university in Buckinghamshire whilst playing for the rugby team.

Since then, we’ve all remained close friends, and have decided that 2019 is the year we do something special and for a good cause, this one is for John!

When we heard Matt was suggesting this epic fundraiser, Adam was straight onto the planning and looking into the possibilities.

Once he mentioned it, it was an immediate yes to joining him; after all, who else would ensure Matt makes it to Land’s End in (hopefully) one piece...

We plan on cycling just under 1000 miles in 9 days, which is going to be incredibly tough, but it’s all for an amazing cause. We will be sharing the route soon, but it is likely going to snake across Scotland, down the west coast of the UK and then through the Midlands to the South West, with what we're sure will be an emotional finish at Lands End on 16th September, the 1 year anniversary of John passing away.

Follow our group Instagram account @JOGLE4PC as we track our progress throughout the training and event itself... here we go!
