Story

Hey guys. Yes, another Just Giving page...hows about I just cut to the chase?

This year, in a moment of delusion and insanity, I agreed to take part in the Great South Run on the 25th October.

Anyone that knows me remotely well knows that one of the things I cannot stand is running. Question - how would I survive a zombie outbreak? Answer - kill myself as soon as possible as there's no way I'm relying on running to get away from any damn zombies. I loathe it. But that's why I think I wanted to do this run - after all, what's the point in sponsoring someone to do something that they love? You'd much rather sponsor someone to suffer horribly, right? Right??

The reason behind this gross act of masochism is a great charity - Step by Step. They are a local charity (based in Aldershot) that do a stonking job of helping homeless young people to get not only a roof over their heads, but support and guidance so that they can gain skills and employment. Many of us would probably have a hard time imagining being without any kind of familial support, without a home and with nowhere to turn through absolutely no fault of our own. Step by Step exist to make sure that young people that find themselves in this situation have someone to turn to...to provide that light at the end of the tunnel.

So, that's where we come in. I'm going to be fighting all of my natural instincts by running 10 miles in the cold October rain on the Southsea sea front. You can show me that it's all worthwhile by pledging any quantity of money to the cause. No donation is too small. And, if you're a bit hard up right now - that's ok too. Any words of encouragement, inspiration or even sadistic humour would be great, and will undoubtedly help me get through this!

Did I mention that I will be completing this run while suffering from shin splints? Therefore, there is a high chance (well, a 100% chance really) that at least part of this run will be completed at more of a walking pace. But rest assured - I will finish it (please don't try this at home kids).

No fundraiser is complete without further opportunities to totally humiliate the participant. Therefore I've come up with a couple of milestone markers to make things a bit more interesting:

For every £50 closer to target we get, I will offer the opportunity to post an embarrassing photo of myself to Facebook. The donor that takes us over the £50 mark will be able to specify what the photo should be of, provided you're not anonymous of course (please feel free to be anonymous...really...). We're all friends here, but just to be clear - nothing x-rated please. No-one wants to see that.

Secondly, I want to get a tattoo to mark this event after the run. The highest overall donor will be able to decide what this tattoo will be of. Again, nothing x-rated - I will not be tattooing any wangs or baps on myself (oh yes...I know what some of you guys are like).

I think I'm done talking now. Thanks in advance guys for your support. Much love.
