Sudbury to Bures Canoe Event · 5 August 2013

We work with churches, individuals and local organisations in communities worldwide, supporting people of all faiths and none to rise out of poverty. We help people survive disasters, deal with the impact of climate change, find shelter from conflict and have a voice in their communities.

Across the world, people living with disabilities face more obstacles to being fully involved in society than the rest of the population, and even more so in poorer countries.

In Lebanon and the West Bank (occupied Palestinian territory) there are approximately 500,000 people living with disabilities. Practical difficulties and discrimination often prevent them from fully participating in society, or the workplace.

This new project will directly benefit 30,000 people in Lebanon and the West Bank and its wider impact will improve the prospects for many thousands more.

The money your group donates will help:

  • Provide training and careers guidance for people living with disabilities

  • Improve prospects for jobs

  • Improve working conditions, including workplace adaptation

  • Increase awareness, particularly among employers, of issues facing people living with disabilities

  • Improve laws protecting the rights of people living with disabilities.

Over the course of three years, starting in April 2012, this new project will be improving the lives of people with disabilities in the Middle East, enabling them to become confident, active members of society.

It will improve their skills, enabling them to set up their own businesses or to enter employment, and will break down the obstacles that currently stand in their way.

Thank you.

John
