Story

Me again! After getting permission from the Mrs and...

a) being so close to raising £15,000 for PCUK

b) speaking to PCUK about their @ridelondon plans

I have decided to do one more challenge (well actually 2, but on one weekend). One Saturday 15th I am going to ride the full 46mile route plus riding to the start and from the finish (about 100km) and I am planning on doing this with my amazing Mrs only 8 weeks after her breast cancer surgery!!

Then on Sunday 16th I’m going to ride the full 100miles route including riding to and from the start (about 200km).

That’s a 300km+ weekend of riding in support of @pancreaticcanuk and a HUGE achievement for Marsha, so hopefully something that will be enough to top my fundraising over the £15K total? My fundraising link is still in my bio and I thank everyone once for for their support and generosity from last month... the legs are still a little heavy!

This is what I did in July.....

I find myself looking for a challenge and an opportunity to make a fresh start after a prolonged period of not very good times!

Many of you know about the loss of my brother to cancer in 2017 and since then it seems to have been one drama after another for Marsha and I. More recently, as a result of the pandemic I lost all of my business which has been a huge loss and meant that over 20 years of investment, time and money has all gone and with it my purpose. Then my partner Marsha was diagnosed with breast cancer and during this pandemic lockdown, she's had to deal with a mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, and now a long recovery process. But, always wanting to put a positive spin on things, I have had the time to be with her, and take the time to nurse her as well as some time to look at what we want the next chapter of our lives to look like...

So, I thought how can I do something for charity before I start my new chapter?

As a result of some brainstorming I have decided that I am going to ride 100km every day through July. I am going to allow 5 people to join me each day and I am going to start nice and early so it doesn't interfere with my day too much and allows me to get back home to Marsha and continue my assistance with her recovery. I have chosen PCUK because they were the official charity of the Ride 100 this year, and with that being cancelled, I want to try and give them something to top-up their income, as well as pancreatic cancer being cancer that I think needs more focus and attention.

Please see the launch video that I have attached to the page and please share, join me, support me and cheer me on if you see me one morning in July on your commute to work? I have set a fundraising target of £3100.00 which equates to £100 per day, please help me smash through that?

About PCUK: Pancreatic cancer is a tough one but we’re taking it on. It is tough to diagnose, tough to treat, tough to research, and tough to survive. For too long this disease has been sidelined. We want to make sure that everyone affected by it gets all the help they need. We are supporting those affected by the disease, investing in groundbreaking research, lobbying for greater recognition of pancreatic cancer and being a voice for everyone involved in the fight. Together we are taking on pancreatic cancer.

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.
