The Liverpool Head and Neck Centre (LHNC) combines internationally recognised clinical and research strengths to deliver research-led improvements in the quality and safety of patient care.

Story

I recently heard the awful news that my good friend and mentor, Prof John Hyatt of New Brighton, has had a return of throat cancer that he has fought off twice already.

John H has been a huge support to me during some particularly dark times in my own health and though I feel helpless to do anything for him practically from half way round the world, he did earlier this week make me promise to stay active. So what better to run/walk/crawl a 5.4km race to follow his advise and show my support?

In his own words: "Just to say that, unfortunately, I have been diagnosed with another throat cancer - my third - and am going in for an 8-hour operation on Saturday. This one will be gruesome, I am afraid (not literally as I am a Stoic). I won't look too pretty afterwards and it's going to take 2/3 months minimum recovery. See you when I can, meanwhile, promise me, enjoy EVERYTHING."

All proceeds go to the place  where he will receive treatment over the next few months; the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre (LHNC). In typically selfless fashion he has set up an art therapy project there which he will be picking up on when he recovers. It's fascinating and worth a look for a glimpse of the man and his battle.
