Story

Care Workers are at the frontline of the coronavirus crisis, caring for societys most vulnerable and most susceptible to the disease. If a care worker needs to self-isolate, they will fall into desperate need. Any help will go a long way.

My Personal Story:: In addition to losing my wife recently, I have also lost her 96 year old Dad. Over the last 5 years, he received exceptional care (at home and in a care home) from exceptional people. These carers are often undervalued and lowly paid. I saw them do difficult tasks and make extraordinary efforts to improve his quality of life though friendliness and respect.

I want such carers to get more recognition, support and reward. During these difficult coronavirus times, these carers tend to be forgotten with most appreciation directed to the NHS workers, rightly so.

My initial Couch to 75km for Care Workers campaign raised funds and I want to continue to reach 150km. This will raise more funds to help these carers and their families in hardship and to offer other forms of support.  Some families have lost their care worker. Care workers suffer emotional stresses when someone dies and therapeutic help may be necessary. These are just a few examples of how these workers need our support.

My new contribution is to walk and run another  75km to reach 150km before the end July. I have a modest aim to raise £2000. My efforts will be monitored on Just Giving.

Take care, keep safe
