Story
My son Tim (25) and I have decided to enter the Great South Run this year and we want to do it for the charity that supports Tim’s Nanny and Grandad (my Mum & Dad) – Care for the Carers.
Mum (Nanny) has had progressive dementia over the last 5 years or so, combined with fits and regular falls she has now become very unsteady on her feet. This has resulted in Dad (Grandad) becoming her full-time carer. They are both 85 years old and up until just a few years ago they led very active lives; keen gardeners, swimming 3 times a week and regular walks along Eastbourne sea front, but sadly no longer.
They remain devoted to each other and Dad does his best to look after Mum with some help from my sister Yvonne who works and lives nearby, but also has her health challenges as she approaches retirement.
They do pay for some private support for Dad once a week for a few hours and in addition he receives further support from the charity; East Sussex ‘Care for the Carers’ (See website; https://www.cftc.org.uk/).
The help and support they provide is invaluable to them both. It is a wonderful charity, helping to keep carers supported through providing relief and assistance, for those caring for loved ones with this dreadful and uncompromising disease.
Please give what you can for this much needed charity, to enable the valuable work to continue. Any donation is much appreciated.
Sincere thanks to all of you
John & Tim Farmer
