Story

Hi there Everyone!

My name is John Farrell. I am 59 years young!!! I have the privilege of being Married, for the past 40 years, to one of lifes real Gems, Elizabeth, We have 6 children (Damien, Paul, Margaret, John, Eamon and Aileen ) and two lovely Grandchildren ( Saoirse and Orlagh ). In Febuary 2010 after several tests and a biopsy it was diagnosed that i had Prostrate Cancer.  Having been offered several options by my Consultant i decided to adopt a wait and see approach to my illness, as i beleived my PSA readings still to be at a low level. after 12 months of attending Hospital for blood tests etc another biopsy showed not only a spread of my Cancer but that Traces of an aggressive Cancer had now been detected. It was recommended that i underwent an 8 and a half week course of Radiotheraphy in Belfast City Hospital under the watch of another Consultant Dr Mitchell. During my stay in Belfast i met so many fellow Cancer sufferers and we quickly formed a magical bond between us all. You just had to be there to witness the Craic and carry on that went on! Some of the Girls were just Amazing, despite coming through Mastectomy, Chemotheraphy and undergoing Radiotherapy along side me, their Caring nature shone through, and it was just a humbling experience to be in there company. As you read this  i can confirm that some of these young woman have already passed away from this Terrible disease among them Lovely Geraldine from Derry (see her pic in my photos) Geraldine died only 6 weeks after leaving hospital after getting the all clear!!!!. Despite almost total suffering this young Lady was a star, never giving in to her Cancer.Gearldine leaves behind two young children. Some others (Men and Woman ) are continuing there struggle against  their Cancers, some Ailing, some thriving! I myself am continuing to receive treatment and hope this will put me into some sort of remission which will allow me more quality time to spend with my Liz, family, and particularly the beautiful Grandchildren.

My reason and aim on this site is to help raise some money for the fight against this vicious  disease. I am 60 in October and rather that have silly money spent on cards pressies etc I have decided to use the occasion to help, ( Along with my Family , Friends, Workmates etc,.) raise some money to help Cancer research in there ongoing battle to rid the world from this  Awful killing disease.  All of us has lost at some point to Cancer, A close family member, a Relative, A friend, A neighbour etc,. I am fully aware that times we live in are hard and that maybe there is overkill out there with many charitys wanting our money, But I firmly beleive that this charity is doing more than any other to get to terms with Cancer and i think donations via Cancer Research CAN and WILL eventualy bring death by Cancer down to a minimum level.
