Story
Along with and the other "Bristol Mile Monkeys", I will be attempting to cycle the height of Everest 8,848 meters (29,029 feet) non-stop up Burrington Coombe on the 12th & 13th July. This in cycling is called an Everesting event and is not for the faint-hearted.
The British Lung Foundation is a charity that is close to my family. People who follow our Facebook page, will have seen my partner Karen raised money and awareness previously in her cycle challenge, in support of her father who has a life-limiting condition - COPD. Alan is a source of inspiration to me; I see how he bravely faces daily struggles and although sadly unsuccessful for him, he bravely faced a trial surgery last year. Without funding in research even attempting this would have not been possible.
As a family we also use the British Lung Foundation website as a source of vital support/information, the British Lung Foundation brings hope to our family, that with research and improvements in treatment, the future may not be as bleak as currently diagnosed. I want to use my stupidity to support this amazing cause and continue raising awareness and funds, when I am struggling, I will think of Alan and know it will spur me on.
Everesting, is nuts, the stats on this look painful, highlights being; 50 laps, Avg grade 5.5% and 10,000+ calories. You are not allowed to sleep during your attempt (which will take around 24 hours) and it must be attempted on solo cycles in order to comply with the rules.
