Hello!

Many of you will be aware that I’m a keen sailor and support the RNLI on a personal basis, and it has occurred to me that the work of an Insolvency Practitioner could also reflect that of the lifeboat service, in that we both offer rescue and recovery services in situations where the distressed object could go down with all hands!

I’m sure that you will agree with me that we could all do so much more to help get a positive outcome in these instances, if we were called in earlier at the first sign of distress, in much the same way that putting out a “pan-pan” [a state of urgency) call, recognises that a problem exists, rather than a “mayday”, which indicates that all other options have been exhausted.

This got me to thinking that there could be a creative way to raise money for the RNLI, as well as highlighting the opportunities which calling in an IP early could offer.

So, Harlow Insolvency is launching its “Out On A Shout” fundraising campaign to raise money every time a lifeboat is launched, specifically to raise funds towards the construction of a new lifeboat house at Wells By Sea in Norfolk, which is a popular haunt for many in the East Midlands!

The launches are posted on the RNLI’s own Twitter account (@outonashout), so we can keep a record of the launches and the lifeboat stations. There were 8,228 launches recorded in 2016 and I would like to invite you to pledge an amount of money for each launch throughout 2017.

I’d suggest pledges of 1p, 5p or 10p – for launches across the UK, or if there is a particular station you would like to support, perhaps £1 or more for each launch. If you wish to set a cap for the maximum donation, that would be fine, but if you would like to chat with me further – please do!

Based on last year’s figures :-
1p = £82.28
5p = £411.40
10p = £822.80

We will record the launches relevant to each individual or company that pledges and send you the information on a monthly basis, so that you have an ongoing record.

At the end of the year, we’ll have a big bash to celebrate, where a cheque can be presented to the RNLI.

I do hope that you think this is an innovative way to raise money to an excellent cause and will support this initiative.
