In April 2019, I ran a 6 day ultra-marathon in Morocco, the
Marathon des Sables, in memory of Janice, my wife of 27 years. Janice passed away in September 2018, after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
2018 was an incredibly difficult year, but training for the Marathon des Sables gave me purpose. and the event itself was an amazing experience. It was exciting to meet everyone involved
and to do something I’d never attempted before.
I’m going to keep taking on more challenges. I think Janice would be glad to know I’ve found something which is helping me to keep going.
I entered the
Cape Wrath Ultra in 2020. It's an 8-day expedition following a tough 400km backpacking trail
across rugged landscapes in the Highlands of Scotland. Unfortunately, the race was cancelled for 2020, due to coronavirus restrictions. Initially, I transferred my entry to the 2021 race, and continued with my training. But the 2021 race was delayed till August, which doesn't suit me for a number of reasons. So I've now deferred my entry until 2022. But I've added in some challenges of my own on my journey to Cape Wrath, and people have responded by generously donating. This page will close to donations at the end of summer 2021, but you'll still be able to see how my journey continues, on my blog and on my Facebook page.
I'm raising money for the Rainbow Community Garden Hull. It's a fantastic project which helps people get outside, be more active, and improve their mental health. It's something I'm really passionate about, especially because being outdoors and running has helped me such a lot.
The lovely people at HEY Smile Foundation are managing my donations for me. They'll pass everything on to the Rainbow Garden.
