Story

Ashbourne Rugby Club are planning a sponsored cycle for The Irish Cancer Society in memory of Declan Mahon, who passed away in November 2020.

The Declan Mahon Memorial Cycle in aid of The Irish Cancer Society will take place on the 11th of September 2022.

Declan was a stalwart and much loved member of Ashbourne Rugby Club, and after his playing career finished, he became a referee, again, giving back to the game of Rugby.

Declan had an idea of cycling around North East Leinster Rugby clubs as part of a fun charity cycle, a loop of 200ish km. Unfortunately Declan was taken from us before he could organise this event. In his memory we are doing this cycle on September 11th.

We will be leaving Ashbourne RFC at 7.45am, passing by Ratoath RFC at 8.00am and arriving in Navan RFC at approx 9.00am, Ardee Rugby Club at 11.00am, Dundalk RFC at 12.30pm, Boyne RFC at 2.30pm,Skerries Rugby Club at 4.00pm &Balbriggan RFC at 4.30pm then returning to Ashbourne

This cycle is a relay style event, with one group of cyclists on the road at all times.

Cancer is a very nefarious disease, that has touched so many families. Declan fought to the end, and bore it with great dignity and good spirits, as he did everything in his life. Declan is very sadly missed by Ashbourne RFC.
