Last year we said goodbye to a truly great man: Willie Renwick. Willie was adored by his family and friends and was always the life and soul of the party.

Willie spent several years bravely fighting COPD. After being diagnosed with cancer, Willie sadly passed away in his sleep on 30 March 2020. His beloved family were all by his side.

Willie was warm, generous and was always pleased to see you. I only knew Willie for a few years but he always had so much time for you despite the obvious physical pain he was in. He made me feel part of the family instantly always keen to chat about Everton, sport, haggis and trifle...

To honor Willie's life and raise funds for a great cause: COPD Support Ireland, I am taking on another huge challenge. This summer I will be attempting to cycle from Blackpool to Dublin in approx 12 hours! Blackpool has very fond memories for Willie and the family. They used to take the ferry and train across for their holidays. I will be aiming to follow their route which will require leaving Blackpool at 4am and cycling approx. 150 miles. This will include 3 hours of sleep/ beer on the ferry into Dublin Port. 

I've completed many ultra distance events and challenges including an ironman over the last 10 years but this challenge will be well outside of my comfort zone. 

COPD Support Ireland is a charity set up to support all those living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The charity are Ireland’s only national COPD support, bringing together local support groups from around the country, to help those living with, and caring for someone with, COPD.
