Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page

Because collecting pictures of ships has always a pastime of mine it was never intended to be profitable; the ship pictures that are on show were either purchased by myself or what people had given me. About 20 years ago I bought the Photo Shop program and spent many hours cleaning up my ship pictures that had cracks or rips on them, I then began filing my pictures into their different shipping companies. However, my cousin who also had a collection of ships gave them all to me, but most of them were on DVDs that also needed cleaning up from the usual cracks and other disfigurements on them. However, luck came my way about three years ago when my son bought a huge
collection of ships on a USB; it was just what I wanted, and my pastime of cleaning up ship pictures and building them into fleet lists continued.

After completing a picture profile of the Blue Funnel Line, I wondered what the reaction would be if I tried to sell them, so it was about
two years ago that I placed an advert in the Sea Breezes magazine to sell the Blue Funnel Line ships on a USB. The response wasn’t great, but the profit I made just about paid for my advert and that was all I really wanted. However, the emails I received from those who’d bought the Blue Funnel USB were most complimentary after seeing 600 good quality ship photographs of ships, those vessels were from the amalgamated Blue Funnel, Shire and Glen Lines.  Continuing with my pastime of I made picture profiles of T&J Harrison, the Blue Star and quite a few more of the noted companies, but instead of a portrait format, like the one I’d previously sold on a USB, these were made in a landscape format to show a much bigger and better
presentation. However, after I’d made 40 picture profiles of the leading red ensign companies, I decided to give them away as freebies to those men and women who’d served in the Merchant Navy.

But since Covid 19 has arrived, and with various people making contributions with their own fund-raising efforts to worthwhile
charities, I decided to contribute my portfolio of ship pictures to a good cause, and The Motor Neurone Disease Association was the one I chose. That was because my younger brother who’d been in the Cunard died from the disease, and after watching Sally Nugent of the BBC running a program on Tom Burrow the rugby player.

Anybody can see the pictures on my website for free. But these on-line digital photographs will not be coming to viewers all at once and will probably be posted out via the RED ENSIGN SHIPS web site twice a week. In the first instance I will show the three volumes of the BLUE FUNNEL LINE which has doubled in size since to the first one I made two years ago, and if the response is satisfactory, I’ll continue showing the rest of the ship profiles twice a week in a schedule that will take four or five months. So just download what you can see on the RED ENSIGN SHIPS website, and if you think they’re worth it, a donation to the MND ‘Just Giving’ would be greatly appreciated. - John Richardson. R589359
