Story
In 2018, pancreatic cancer took my friend and brother-in-law Steve Cork, aged 55, just seven months after diagnosis. I am taking part in Ride London on May 29th in memory of Steve and in hope for another friend Rowland, diagnosed in March this year, who is undergoing treatment. Pancreatic cancer is a devastating illness and more resources are desperately needed to bring it under control. Please contribute if you can, and/or write to your MP (see below). Thank you for your support.
THE UK HAS A POOR RECORD
Pancreatic cancer is the tenth most common and fifth biggest killing cancer in the UK.
Our five-year survival rate ranks 29th of 33 countries with comparable data.
When diagnosed, 25% of people won’t survive a month, 75% won’t last a year and only 1% make it past 10 years.
It affects men and women equally, with 10,000 cases and 9,000 deaths per year in the UK.
80% of cases are diagnosed at a late stage.
Despite this, pancreatic cancer gets just 2% of the UK's cancer research budget.
PLEASE WRITE TO YOUR MP
PCUK organises the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Pancreatic Cancer. Please make your MP aware of this APPG and ask them to support its goals of improving diagnosis, treatment, research and outcomes for people with pancreatic cancer.
