Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit John's JustGiving page.
Our Dad was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer in November 2012. His diagnosis came as a great shock to us all as he was a fit and healthy man who exercised regularly and didn't eat or drink to excess (well not often!!). Within 5 days of diagnosis he underwent 9 hours of surgery to remove half of his large intestine and is now undergoing a six month course of chemotherapy. Once chemotherapy is completed he will undergo a further and hopefully final surgery.Dad has seen every step as a challenge and with support from us, extended family and friends he is recovering well. Despite his condition, he wants to raise funds and perhaps more importantly, the profile of Bowel Cancer UK by taking part in the London Nightrider 100km bike ride. It's a huge challenge and he will have to work hard building his depleted fitness levels over the next couple of months! 100km may be one step too far at this stage in his recovery but knowing our dad, his determination to succeed coupled together with his sheer pig headiness and refusal to be beaten by anything, we think he will make it! One thing is for sure he'll have a damn good try and it will certainly give him something to focus on.We have set up this page as a surprise for him and once a few donations and messages of encouragement start appearing we will show him. Please donate so Bowel cancer UK can continue to save the lives of as many people as possible, people like our dad who means the world to us.We love you dad and will be there supporting you every step of the way - through each tough km of the bike ride and through each tough stage of your fight against cancer!
Rosie, Marc and Rachael.
