Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This past year has been such a challenging time for us all, but in particular those who are vulnerable, needy, and often living alone. We, in SVP Bletchley, aim to assist such people within our local community.
For example; SVP Bletchley often support the Homeless when they are given a flat and need help to kit out their accommodation, with bedding, carpets, rugs, fridges, cookers, crockery, curtains, washing machines, TV’s, furniture; and even refurbished bikes to enable them to get work and care for themselves. Many of these items are given to us through the generosity of thoughtful Donors or we purchase them at reasonable prices.
In addition, SVP Bletchley have helped families, struggling with the pressures of Lockdown and caring for children at home: by providing food parcels, or dealing with emergency situations such as broken down fridges, washing machines, dryers etc. They have also provided home-schooling resources such as; books; toys; outdoor games; bikes and sewing aids: and help families to identify and access local Food Banks and School Laptop provision.
They also help the elderly: those who are House-Bound and those living alone, with collection of prescriptions; getting food; cutting grass or providing much needed friendship via telephone and/or social distanced door step contact and chat.
Prior to the Pandemic, the funds to support all of their efforts would have come from the generous donations from Parishioners through financial collections at Church, but since February 2020 this has, of course, not been possible. Since then funds have been sustained by a generous band of friends and supporters, who understand how the Pandemic, whilst increasing the hardship of so many locally, has restricted our funds.
During this season of Lent John Gerard Scott and Oonagh Standen are seeking your loyal support to raise funds for the SVP Bletchley, by embarking on a Sponsored Walk - along the Greensand Ridge from Leighton Buzzard to Gamlingay. Not just any Walk! This one is 40 miles long and they plan to achieve that IN ONE GO. This will take about 20 hours of total walking! Much of that will take place during the night: so moonlight and clear skies are essential. They are currently in training doing individual practice walks: and will take the first opportunity available to complete the Challenge: taking into consideration weather, light, ground conditions and COVID-19 restrictions.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity
With God’s Blessings and Prayers
