On Sunday 7th October, I will be competing in my 6th Great Cumbrian Run in Carlisle this October in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Once again I will doing my utmost to complete 13.1 miles across this wonderful city as well as try to break my Personal Best of 3 hours, 56 minutes (set in 2015).

Since 2008, I have raised over £8'000 for Cancer Research UK through 5 Great Cumbrian Runs, three 10k Runs (Carlisle in 2010, Workington in 2016 & 2017) and completed The Great Row at Workington Leisure Centre (rowing a marathon over 3 Fridays) as well as several fundraising nights at The Harbour Side in Workington

I have suffered the agony of losing close family members to this cruel disease.  My sister Terena was taken by Non Hodgkin Lymphona in February 1996 at the age of only 20 and in April 2015, my Uncle Tony succumbed to bone cancer at just 57.

Both are still missed badly and just as there are moments when the tears are never far away, so I will always have many fond memories that make me smile and laugh.  I know that they will be looking down on me with immense pride of what I have achieved.

The day when Cancer is wiped out cannot come too soon - and I know that day WILL come.
