Ghana Education Project Sponsored Walk · 23 June 2008
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page - it's not too late to sponsor us!
Ghana Education Project (GEP) is a brilliant charity committed to promoting and providing education in the Nkwanta region of North East Ghana, an area of extreme deprivation largely overlooked by major charities and aid agencies.
Since 1997, girls at Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School (TWGGS) have been working to raise money to support the charity, and every two years a small group of girls are selected to visit Nkwanta to teach in local schools, undertake projects and participate in cultural exchanges. In October 2008 Katherine will be following in her sister Charlotte's foot steps (TWGGS Ghana 2006 Team) and will be travelling to Ghana with 14 other girls, all of whom have been actively fund raising for the charity (and also working to pay for their own trip costs) since they were selected.
GEP has recently launched its most ambitious project to date - to build and equip a new girls school at a cost of around £300,000. To help kick start this project, the girls of the TWGGS Ghana 2008 Team (and their parents) have set a target to raise £30,000 this year for the charity. With around £15,000 raised to date, the next event is a sponsored walk around Bewl Water in Kent - see update below.
Visit the GEP web site for more details: www.ghanaeducationproject.org.uk
As GEP has virtually no administration costs all the money raised directly benefits the children of Nkwanta and their communities. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: GHANA EDUCATION PROJECT gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So PLEASE PLEASE sponsor us now!
A BIG thank you to everyone who is able to help us support this very worthwhile charity.

Update: Sunday was a great day for walking..not too hot and sufficient breeze to keep it pleasant. Katherine and Sammy led virtually from start to finish...helped by their unfair advantage of having longer legs than everyone else! Time was quick, but not as quick as in 2006 when we had the added incentive of trying to get back in time to watch England versus Portugal in the World Cup (a bad day in the end as we lost on penalties!) . Also we did an extra mile or so at the end, being too busy talking and not spending enough time checking the map!...but still managed to get back to the Bull before everyone else in time for a well deserved pint (or lemonade in K's case). Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored us so far....and if you haven't yet the web site will stay open until the end of August for anyone who still wants to sponsor our efforts and donate to GEP.
