Thank you for visiting our page for John. John was diagnosed with melanoma in July 2015 and began a journey of hospital visits, stays, scans and courses of treatment, including radiotherapy and immunotherapy. Despite times of hope and good news, in February 2017 the melanoma was found to have spread to his brain. The doctors tried a course of targeted radiotherapy but this was unfortunately unsuccessful. Following an incredibly brave and inspirational two years, John passed away peacefully on 14th June 2017 at The Christie Hospital in Withington.

John showed an amazing display of positivity, optimism and, of course, humour during this time and pushed himself as much as he could to ensure that his illness did not affect his quality of life and the quality of the time he was able to spend with his family and friends. We would like to remember John's unique, warm spirit and his incredible kindness and generosity. He was a gentleman full of integrity who found success in everything he did, all whilst never taking life too seriously and ensuring there was a joke for any situation. He was the perfect husband, father and friend and whilst we will all miss him terribly, we find a sense of gratitude for having been lucky enough to have had him in our lives.  

In John’s memory, we would like to raise money for The Christie charity. Throughout John’s treatment, the care provided by The Christie was outstanding and we are so thankful to all the doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants who looked after John (and us) throughout this difficult time. Money raised for The Christie charity also supports the life-saving research and the staff who are working hard to improve outcomes for this terrible disease.
