Wirral Coastal Walk · 17 March 2009

We provide FREE hospice care for adult patients and support for loved ones. Some NHS funding is received but the majority of our income is donated by individuals, families, groups, companies and charitable trusts. Thank you for all of the kind support you are able to give us!

Story

                                         Our Story

In memory of John, Barbara, Michael and Joanne took part in the BUPA Great Manchester 10K run on 15th May 2011 and managed to raise more money for St John’s Hospice on the Wirral, which was John’s chosen charity.

John was diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer in March 2009 and was determined to turn his situation into something positive by fundraising for a local charity which played a significant part in his palliative care in the latter stages of his life.

Over the last 2 years the family have raised £27,450, with gift aid included, by various events including:

·         A walk on Easter Saturday 2009 at Wirral Country Park, Thurstaston, with 125 people turning up- a walk that we continue to do every Easter Saturday in his memory;

·         An Open Day at the Village Hotel, Bromborough which included a 4 hour spinathon;

·         Ladies’ Midnight Walk organised by the Hospice;

·         Sponsored events run by friends including Stephen and Christopher doing the London marathon, Steve and Tom doing the Hellrunner and David Bye doing the Edinburgh marathon;

·         Donations in lieu of birthday presents, Eva’s Christening and Christmas cards; and

·         Auctioning a framed and signed Manchester United shirt.

John sadly lost his long, courageous battle for life on 10th March 2010 and we are continuing to raise money for the Hospice in his memory. It is our aim to try and reach £30,000.

Many thanks,

Barbara, Michael and Joanne
