A dear friend of ours is about to embark on an extraordinary challenge. 

Johnny Bergius, a Trustee of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, is so fiercely dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS that he is planning to embark on one of the world’s greatest challenges – to climb Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America.  It's the world’s highest mountain outside of the Himalayas standing at nearly 7000m (22,831 feet). 

This is a brutal and gruelling four-week endeavour.  He has been training for months, and the conditions he will encounter on the way to the summit will test his physical and mental endurance to the absolute extreme.  The freezing cold, snow, sleet and high winds, along with the debilitating effects of high altitude will push Johnny to the absolute limit.

Johnny’s commitment to the Elton John AIDS Foundation is beyond exemplary.  He shares the same passion that we do in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  This passion is what created the Elton John AIDS Foundation, an organisation dedicated to preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and offering direct care to those affected by this devastating illness.  Since it’s inception, we have raised and distributed over US$110 million to 55 countries around the world.  Johnny has been at the heart of some of our most successful fundraising ventures.

By deciding to climb Aconcagua, Johnny is determined to help us raise more desperately needed funds.  He is even covering all costs of his expedition to ensure that every single penny raised will go to where it’s needed most – the fight against HIV/AIDS.
