In memory of Janice Curwen

The DMRC Benevolent Fund purchases special goods and services for patients' rehabilitation, beyond that which is provided by the public purse. We create opportunities for patients to engage in social activities, which lets them forget about their injuries and rehabilitation for a few hours.

Story

As many of you will know, I have been fundraising for various injured servicemen/women charities for years and many of you have helped me raise thousands of pounds, so I would like to start by thanking you for that.

I would now appreciate your support again.

On 19th May 2019, I will begin cycling from John O'Groats, the Northern tip of Scotland to Nice, on the Southern coast of France. The route I have chosen will be around one thousand eight hundred miles, which I am hoping to complete in around 24 days. Like my last cycling endeavour, I will once again be riding self-sufficiently and camping along the way, carrying my own food, tent, water etc.  At various points along route I will be accompanied by others - including staff and some current injured British Military personnel from DMRC Stanford Hall - who will join me for a section of the ride. Some of whom will be riding on hand-bikes.

Over the last few years, I have had the opportunity to visit DMRC Stanford Hall (and formerly DMRC Headley Court) and was able to see for myself what a fantastic effort both the patients and staff put into recovery. The unit provides residential and outpatient rehabilitation for patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological and complex trauma injuries; DMRC Benevolent Fund allows the support of facilities and welfare activities to aid the well-being of service personnel.

This is a very important charity which I fully support, so I hope that you can contribute something towards it. I have seen first hand the devastating injuries some have sustained and the positivity that comes from the rehabilitation. For that, we as a nation should support our injured servicemen/women in their time of need. In Summer 2018, DMRC Headley Court relocated to a purpose-built facility in Loughborough called DMRC Stanford Hall, which continues to give the same gold-standard of treatment to our wounded.

In March 2019, my life partner and the mother of my two children sadly passed away. I will therefore be doing this ride in memory of her - RIP Janice Curwen.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. All money raised will go towards DMRC Benevolent Fund.
