Care Workers are at the frontline of the coronavirus crisis, caring for societys most vulnerable and most susceptible to the disease. If a care worker needs to self-isolate, they will fall into desperate need. Any help will go a long way.

Story

John was diagnosed with Progressive MS in January 2019, following a number of years of declining health. Multiple sclerosis is a condition that affects your brain and spinal cord and John was barely able to move unaided, struggling physically with movements which previously came without issue. Soon after his diagnosis he moved to a care home in South Wales, due to his limited mobility and health needs.

During the Coronavirus crisis John has felt that there is a distinct lack of support for Care Workers and decided at the beginning of May that he needed to do something about this! To show his support, despite limited mobility and pain management needs, he decided that he would complete a lap of the lake within the care home grounds for every care home death due to COVID-19. John will be completing the laps in his electric wheelchair and will be completing as many as he is physically able to in a day - or as many as he can before his battery runs out!

John has vowed that he will continue to complete daily laps of the lake until there are zero daily deaths reported. He wants to show his gratitude, respect and admiration for those caring for him, for his neighbouring residents and for all of the vulnerable people across the UK.

The Care Workers Charity supports the basic welfare of current and former retired care workers. As a vulnerable workforce, when life takes a turn for the worse, the Care Workers Charity can provide financial support and guidance to overcome inevitable challenges.

To show our appreciation for his efforts, this page has been set up by his daughter (Danielle Simons) and with the help of the amazing staff looking after him, will be updated regularly with his progress. We are all very proud of what he has achieved so far and hope that we can raise some funds for those that John would like to help during this unprecedented and difficult time.
