Story
On 5th December 2012 my work colleague Leonie Marzell passed away aged just 35, leaving her young children, partner and family.
Leonie was a lovely person to work with and I wanted to do something for the Leonie Marzell Foundation, which is being set up in her memory.
From 6-11 July 2013 I cycled from John O'Groats to Land's End in 6 days to raise as much money as possible for Farleigh Hospice's Yo-Yo Project, who have provided support to Leonie's young children, and her partner, in the aftermath of their loss.
The Yo-Yo Project provides essential care and support, completely free of charge, to any bereaved child or young person. Along with relatives of Farleigh Hospice Patients, the team also offers counselling to completely non-related cases such as suicides and accidents. This spans from the age of 4, right through to the age of 18.
Children and young people can either receive one-to-one support through the service, or take part in group sessions. Counselling is provided at the hospice, in schools or at their home. The Yo-Yo Project service is completely tailored to meet each child’s individual needs. A special children and families room located within the hospice offers a homely and dedicated area for the work of the Yo-Yo Project to take place.
