Story
Hi, this year between April 4th and April 23nd to mark 2020, I will be running 20 marathons over 20 consecutive days, raising money for Cancer Research UK.
I've never previously ran marathons over more than 3 consecutive days, so this one really is going massively outside my comfort zone. I'm expecting it to be as much of a mental ordeal as a physical endurance test.
The marathons have been measured to satisfy the 26.2 miles, recognised as the full marathon distance. (So the full distance over 20 days will be a little over 524 miles).
When I signed up to this, the challenge was going to be a succession of 20 official events. However, in a last minute change to the challenge and in view of the Covid 19 pandemic, I'll now be undertaking this alone and the mileage will be fully documented by my Garmin (GPS watch), the data from which I'll release on a daily basis so it can be scrutinised.
This change is to ensure I'm not endangering myself, my wife Cat (who works as a nurse in a busy central London NHS hospital) and the wider public. It's actually a hillier course, so don't think the challenge is any easier as a result. (Though I'll admit, dispensing of the daily 4 hour commute I'd have had to endure is a welcome modification. It's also safer, as it will keep me off public transport).
I'll be running the marathons along a quiet track through Richmond Park and the challenge will be fully documented by my Garmin. I don't have a bike, as Cat and anyone who knows me can testify, so please trust me on this. The change is not by design, but by necessity.
