Story
As some of you know, my mum, Sheila Cowdry, passed away at the end of last year, having lost a short battle with cancer. During that time she was looked after and cared for at home, where as a family we felt she would be most comfortable. Dad did an amazing job throughout, but was assisted on a few occasions by Marie Curie nurses. The nurses would not only care for mum throughout the night, but also give dad the opportunity to rest and grab a full nights sleep. They were a fantastic help; always kind, considerate and friendly. Without them, looking after mum would have been even more difficult.
By way of thanking the nurses and the charity as a whole, I have decided to try and raise as much money as possible by completing this years Great North Run. The event is the single largest half marathon in the world, with over 50000 participants. Mum was incredibly proud when I ran the London marathon, but did ask me never to run one again, having seen the state of me the day after! With that in mind I didn’t think she’d be worried about me running ‘just’ 13 miles, and it is for a great cause.
Making sure I achieve my goal and complete the run, dad is going to accompany me to Newcastle and support me throughout the run, so there is no way I can cheat!
