Marathon Des Sables 2022 · 25 March 2022 to 4 April 2022 ·

When the sun goes down the working day ends for millions of people without electricity. At the flick of a switch, lives can be instantly changed with a solar light. SolarAid wants to make real, sustainable change happen.

Story

I'm the guy on holiday who hates to sit in the sun. I ran the London Marathon 20 years ago on next to no training, hit the wall at 15 miles and injured myself.

So obviously I'm now planning to run the Marathon Des Sables (aka "The Toughest Footrace in the World") - 250km over 6 days, self sufficient across the Sahara.  It's been a year and a half of training.  I'm both excited and terrified.

I'm running for SolarAid which is a great charity helping thousands whilst combating climate change. Thank you for any support.

SolarAid’s vision is of a world where everyone has access to clean, renewable, energy. Nearly 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa lack access to electricity. This forces people across the continent to cut their day short at around 6pm, with many relying on expensive, toxic and dangerous lighting sources such as candles and kerosene lamps. Our mission is to light up every home, school and clinic in Africa by 2030, using safe, clean, solar power. No one should be left in the dark. Together, we can End the Darkness.
