Jon, Chris and Will cycle Lands End to John O Groats · 18 July 2009

CAMFED catalyzes the power of the most vulnerable girls and young women to create the future they imagine — for themselves, for their communities, and for Africa. Click the link below for more information on how we support marginalized girls to learn, thrive and lead change.

Story

Between 18th July and 6th August we are going to cycle from Lands End to John O Groats. As this seems insufficient challenge by itself, we plan to camp along the way carrying all of our gear.

We appreciate how lucky we are to have the chance to spend three weeks cycling in the rain through Britain, but realise that most of the world does not have our advantages. This isn't an organised charity trip in the usual sense, indeed all of our organisation will take place on the train down to Penzance! However we see it as a great opportunity to use pedal power to raise some money for those less fortunate than ourselves and so we hope that you will take this opportunity to donate to Camfed. Camfed is a humanitarian charity working in Africa that Will's firm has worked with in the past.

Training so far has regrettably been limited. Will has been spotted doing laps in Richmond Park (the cycling equivalent of the Nurburgring) although his pride was rather dented when overtaken by a man with one leg. Jon still claims to regularly cycle to work although in truth this is a lie. No-one knows what Chris does in his laboratory. We are relying on a single intensive low altitude training session in Bedfordshire and some stretching exercises on the train down to Penzance to fill the gaps.
