No parent expects to live longer than their child, but for many of the families we support, this is a reality. Julia's House, the Dorset & Wiltshire Children's Hospice charity provides frequent respite care for children and support for their families at home, in the community and at our hospice.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Three years ago I tried to swim from England to France but my attempt was unsuccessful and I was pulled out after twelve and a half hours suffering from Swimming Induced Pulmonary Edema (SIPE).

The causes of SIPE seem not to be fully understood but the effects are that fluid from within your body ends up in your lungs. Your lungs are fairly useful for providing oxygen and buoyancy, so if they gradually fill with water it's a rather inconvenient state of affairs for a swimmer

A lot of soul searching ensued but I finally decided to have another go. In 2017 I put my nose back to the training grindstone and two years later, I'm ready! Cold Wet Bloke v2.0 rides again!

My friends and supporters were very generous in sponsoring me in 2016 and their donations made a real difference to the kids that Julia's House helps in Dorset and Wiltshire. And this is why I've chosen to swim for them again.

You can find more information about me and my quest to swim the English Channel at https://www.coldwetbloke.com.
