The Brathay 262 is an ultra distance cycling event that involves 10 laps of Windermere, England's largest lake, in 24 hours.

Story

In June 2019 I am taking on the mammoth task of cycling 262 miles around Lake Windermere in just 24 hours to raise money for the Brathay Trust.

My wife took part in the Brathay 10in10 marathon challenge this May around the same course.  Having witnessed what she and the other runners achieved has inspired me to take on my own challenge.  I am not a runner and thought the cycling challenge would be more up my street.

I like to cycle but I am not particularly fit so I thought this would help me focus and get healthy.  It is a tough, technical route with some very challenging hills.  I know it will be a tough course to get around 10 times in the 24 hour limit but I will give it my all.

The Brathay Trust do amazing work across the country helping and supporting vulnerable young people and giving them opportunities to turn their lives around.  Their charitable work is underpinned by enterprising fundraising and their supporters’ commitment.

The Trust know that, enthused by the belief in the transformational power of people working together, you can help them make a positive difference. Work with them to transform the lives of young people. There are so many ways to help and discover the Brathay effect that is at the heart of everything they do.

Thank you all for your support and help me help the Brathay Trust transform the lives of young people.

We work with a wide range of young people, often with fewer opportunities in life, including those managing the transition from living in care to independence, at risk of exploitation in unhealthy relationships, needing confidence to find work or training, or facing other challenges in their lives.
