cuban revolution cycle · 9 March 2012
On the 9/3/2012 I will be taking part in The Cuban Revolution Cycle in aid of Mind (reg. Charity no. 219830), the leading mental health charity in England and Wales.
This even involves a 350 kilometer bike ride through Cuba, from Havana to Trinidad, over the course of 5 days. On average, I will be cycling 70 km a day in up it 30 degrees Celsius on and off road.
I have chosen Mind as my charity as I am a student mental heath nurse and they provide services for people with issues that are close to my heart. Working with people who have mental health problems, I have seen the devastating effect it can have on those affected and the people close to them. Nationwide, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem at some point in our lives. Each year more than 250,000 people are admitted to psychiatric hospitals and over 4,000 people take their own lives.
Mind works to improve the quality of life of people who experience mental or emotional distress. They offer a range of services for people with experience of mental distress, their carers and mental health professionals providing information, advice and support.
I would like to raise £2500, as this could fund the set up of an Art and Wellbeing support group for people wanting to engage in arts, nutrition, exercise and personal development. The money could also be used to pay the annual cost for over 40 people to have access to the training, support and benefits of the MindLink User Network.
Charities pay a small fee for our service. Learn more about fees
