Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you know I lost my good friend Leigh Hill to his battle with cancer a couple of years ago.

Leigh was one of the nicest, most generous people to walk this earth and his fight and positivity have had a massive impact on all that I do.

I decided that I would give myself a challenge every year in his memory and use it to try and raise some money for charities near to both his, and my, hearts.

2020 was a write off. Everyone had enough problems of their own so I decided I couldn't ask for sponsorship. So this year I've upped the ante and I'm doing my biggest challenge yet.
I aim to run or hike the equivalent distance of the length of Britain.1083 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats. I've decided that this wil be on top of my daily activities (so not including my normal daily steps) so it works out at around an extra 20 miles a week. I'll be logging everything on Strava and my insta @jacker1976 so you can follow along if you want.

Northumbria Blood Bikes is a registered charity established by local volunteers to deliver essential blood and urgent medical supplies, out of hours, between hospitals and other healthcare sites in North East England. We cover Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Darlington.

Saving money...
Outside normal office hours, hospitals rely on taxis or couriers to transfer urgent medical supplies or test samples between hospitals and other sites. Blood Bike groups, across the country, offer to carry out this service free of charge, ensuring the limited resources of the NHS can be used where it makes a difference. Northumbria Blood Bikes' funding comes entirely from charitable donations, and the service is provided solely by volunteers, giving their own free time to help others.

Saving lives...
In critical situations, blood or other medical items need to be delivered urgently in order to save a patient's life. Blood bikes, with their distinctive livery, emergency lights, and narrow profile, can quickly get through busy traffic to reach their destination. For bulky items, or in extreme weather conditions, we use cars too, to ensure our service is available every day of the year.
