Great Welsh Marathon · 2 April 2023 ·

Steps is the leading charity working for all those whose lives are affected by childhood lower limb conditions. Everything we do is about valuing and supporting individuals, families and carers affected by conditions which have an impact on the legs, hips or feet.

Story

My motivation in completing this journey in support of such a great charity is in aid of my daughter Georgie who was born with a Lower Limb condition called Fibular Hemimelia.

Georgie was born with a missing bone in her leg, a non functioning ankle joint and a small foot with 2 digits.

Thankfully it has been decided that she does not need an amputation through ankle at this point and is doing remarkably well with her prosthetic which has been adapted to encase her foot.

Over to me, I'm an able bodied but unfit and overweight bloke, the thought of running down the road is daunting, let alone running 13.1 miles.

I'm taking inspiration from Georgie and I want to show her that no matter what, you can do what you set your mind to. Therefore, on the 2nd April 2023 I will make it across that finish line to complete my half marathon journey.

My wife Lisa runs an Instagram page @georgie_her.beautiful.story to bring awareness to the condition and connect people from around the world who have children with the same or similar conditions, if you should wish please give the page a follow and see how little Georgie progresses

This will be the first of many health and fitness challenges that I embark on and all will be in aid of Steps Charity Worldwide. I have included an extract of what great work they do below:

We are Steps Charity Worldwide - We don’t take walking for granted Steps is the leading charity working for all those whose lives are affected by childhood lower limb conditions. Everything we do is about valuing and supporting individuals, families and carers affected by conditions which have an impact on the legs, hips or feet.We are the only charity which supports the most common and much rarer lower limb conditions.
