Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Ten years ago I undertook a ride from Gatwick to Aachen, in Germany, to raise funds for the National Autistic Society - my son, Joe, now 21 was diagnosed on the spectrum back in 2001.Through that time my wife, Karen, has strived constantly to make his life prospects the best that they can be. However she has lived with her own significant challenge. She received a diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukaemia on 13th of October 2000. We were extremely fortunate to be referred to the Hammersmith Hospital and be admitted onto a drugs trial run in conjunction with Novartis. That drug, now known as Glivec, has meant Karen is alive and well nearly 19 years later.
A decade on from my last foray to Germany it seems the right time to get back on the bike and help raise funds for a charity that is aiming to build a Centre of Excellence that will provide access to cancer treatment and care for the local people of North Hampshire.
My father, who passed away in 2017 aged 93, lived by one maxim. Leave a place better than when you arrived. In a very small way this is his youngest child trying to do as he was told !
