Story
I'll be cycling and sleeping on the ice of Lake Baikal over three weeks, from the Northern town of Nizhneangarsk through 700 km of wilderness inhabited only by wolves and bears. After a brief rest at the village at Olkhon Island I'll set off alone to Irkutsk. I'll be cycling on my expedition bicycle with all my equipment, fuel and food, melting ice to cook and drink and sleeping in a tiny dome tent anchored by 'ice-climbing' screws fixed in the ice. Daytime temperatures will be around -25C and by night -35C with a mixture of cycling, pushing and portage through areas of broken ice, avoiding open water at all costs!
I'm raising money for Unicef as right now, millions of children are in danger. They face violence, disease, hunger and the chaos of war. Unicef ensures more children get life-saving food, vaccinations, education and protection than anyone else. Today, children are caught up in violent conflict, with millions forced to flee their homes. In 2015, Unicef responded to 310 emergencies in 102 countries.
