Jon's running Manchester Marathon for the Patchworking Garden Project

Manchester Marathon 2022 · 16 April 2023 ·
The Patchworking Garden Project is an inspiring, volunteer-run community garden. It offers opportunities to learn new skills and enjoy the company of others, especially welcoming those with a need because of physical or mental health conditions, learning disabilities, dementia, isolation or bereavement.
I grew up in the area and my mum, Jennie Phillips, is a support volunteer at the Garden. So I've seen how volunteers have transformed it into the haven it is today. It's amazing to see what's been built and grown over the years, and to hear how generous donations have allowed the Garden to support people with their mental health through friendship, gardening, and community.

I've been running for a few years and I've been ramping up my training for Manchester. After a winter of cross-country running in the mud, 26.2 miles of Manchester tarmac almost seem inviting, but I'm not fooling myself, this is going to be tough! I know that running for the Patchworking Garden is going to provide that motivational boost to get me through the painful final miles.
