Story
What better way to see, feel and take a piece Great Britain as my own than cycling end to end over 9 days!
I had always envisaged that I would do this over 2 weeks or so ..perhaps 60 miles a day tops , a nice pub or "b n b"every night and probably when I was at least 10 years younger.
But we are where we are so it will be approx 120 miles a day over 9 days sleeping in a tented village and celebrating my 50th year.
The challenge is set.
At the moment both the training and fundraising targets seem daunting.
The furthest I have ever ridden in a day is probably 80 miles.
I went for a ride on Sunday which was 3 hours, 30 miles and 2200 ft ascent. To complete the ride (and avoid the broom which picks up and ultimately disqualifies the stragglers ) I have to replicate this 4 x per day and then repeat back to back over 9 days.
This seems pretty impossible right now but I will trust the training plan and press on...
I will be riding in memory of my dad who died of bowel cancer earlier this year. He taught me to ride my first bike on Mumbles sea front and in later life became an early pioneer of the e bike. Memories of many happy times and his own love of GB will spur me on..
Also in memory of the mother in law I never met but who would hopefully have liked me - Patricia Burnside - who was cared for by Macmillan before her untimely death.
All donations however big or small will be very gratefully received and will act as a further encouragement to keep me pushing the pedals.
I hope to organise some fundraising events next year in the run up to the ride and will keep you posted. ...
Jon.
