Story
Hi my name is Jonathan and I work for the IT Services Department at Blackpool Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Trust.
I've been lucky enough to get a place at this year’s London Marathon in April and since I was just picked out of the Marathon lottery, I didn't need to apply for a charity place.
I have decided however, to raise some much needed cash for our local Gastro Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, more specifically for an Argon Beam machine which can help in the treatment of Bowel Cancer.
My Dad passed away in September 2000 from Bowel Cancer; he was called James Stanley Young and worked for Blackpool Victoria Hospital in the Works Department for a number of years. He was such a brilliant Dad and loyal friend to everyone who knew him.
If I can raise some cash to stop just one person going though what he went through then it's worth it.
I myself get screened on a regular basis for early signs of the disease just in case. It's such a simple procedure and takes no time at all.
If you or someone you know has relatives effected by this disease, please, just go visit your GP and get yourself checked out...please!
If you want to ask any questions, I'm sure the Bowel Cancer Screening department at Blackpool Victoria will be happy to answer them.
Many thanks to
Judith Statham who is our Bowel Cancer Screening – Lancashire Programme Manager
and also
Dr Mark Hendrickse - Consultant Gastroenterologist – Clinical Director, Lancashire BCSP
