Story
I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis in 2017. Those of you who know me well will remember it was quite a difficult time for me. I had to start using a walking stick and getting around became difficult. It impacted every joint in my body, and still does almost six years on. However, it was not just my physical health that suffered, but my mental health as well. I went to some pretty dark places, and at times I found it very hard to cope and grasp that my body was not what it once was, pain free. However, with the support of my friends and family, I was able to carry on and figure out a way forward. I have learned how to manage my pain, and also how to keep my mind in check. I needed to be positive. I wanted to be a good example to my son and to those around me. I wanted to show that I could cope and manage and still be me. I want to do this challenge to show people that, despite the continuous pain and discomfort I feel every day, arthritis does not have to stop you setting yourself challenges. I want to prove to myself that I can do it. I know for some this challenge might seem arbitrary, but I am under no illusion that for me it will be difficult. I have been building to this since the start of the year and I will continue to train as best I can. I have chosen the Rhyd Ddu Path. This path used to be known as the Beddgelert Path, since it was from this village that walkers started their journey to the summit.
