Story
At the end of this month I will be attempting to complete the Atacama Crossing 2009, a self-supported 250km race on foot through the Atacama Desert, apparently the driest place in the world.
The race, over 7 days at starting at 10,000 ft, consists of 4 single marathons on consecutive days followed by a double marathon and finally a 10k sprint. We must carry all our food, sleeping equipment etc, weighing approximately 10kg, and are only provided with water and a tent for the duration. Day time temperatures are expected to exceed 32 Celsius (90 Fahrenheit) while at night temperatures will drop to 16 Celsius (61 Farenheit).
The Atacama Crossing race is part of a series of desert races, www.racingtheplanet.com, voted the second hardest endurance event in the world by Time Magazine earlier this year.
I will be competing for Leonard Cheshire Disability which supports over 21,000 disabled people and provides them with services that give them the opportunity to live life their way.
I know it is a tough year financially so have tried to find something suitably tough to compete in. Your support would be very much appreciated and I have enclosed a sponsorship form if appropriate which you can either email back or send to my home address above.
Thank you very much for your time.
Kind regards
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Leonard Cheshire Disability gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
