I am doing an Iron-man triathlon (3.8km swim, 180km bike, 40km run)
on Sunday 8th August.
I would like to raise money for the Overseas
Anaesthesia Fund
(Association of Anaesthetists great Britain & Ireland)
Please
sponsor me!

Foundation. All OAF’s administrative costs will be met by the
Foundation, so that all donated money goes directly to support
projects)
Why the Overseas Anaesthesia Fund?
Whilst
honeymooning on Kilimanjaro, I developed
severe altitude sickness, with pulmonary and cerebral oedema and ended
up on an intensive care unit in Moshi, Tanzania. I was aware of the
limited resources they were dealing with there, but still received the
best
care they were able to deliver. As a result of this, and the
fact my wife is an anaesthetist, I have chosen the Overseas Anaesthesia
Fund as my charity. The ethos of the OAF is
grassroots training and education in the poorest developing countries -
ultimately meaning a better quality of care for very sick patients, like
I was.
I feel I have come a long
way since that episode of altitude sickness; for weeks after I was short
of breath just walking down the street. Six
years on things have improved and I am now poised to embark upon another
endurance event....
