Story
In December 2014 my older brother, Simon, died by suicide. He was a wonderful, funny, caring man who was rarely seen without a huge grin. His smile, warmness, and spirit made it all the more heart-breaking and confusing that somebody like him would be struggling as much as he was.
But it's a situation that affects a huge number of people: almost seven years on from Simon's death, suicide remains the biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK, with men accounting for 75% of deaths by suicide.
This is why I've decided to raise money for CALM. CALM are an incredible, valuable charity who are focused on suicide prevention and mental health support. They operate a telephone service every day from 5pm until midnight on 0800 58 58 58 and run an online webchat service on their website, both of these are free, confidential and anonymous.
However, they can only continue to operate these services through fundraising and donations. And that's where you, and me, come in..
• £8 funds a potentially life-saving call.
• £20 can put CALM materials in the hands of campaigners.
• £80 can run the CALM website for a day.
