Story
On October 26th I am doing a 100k trek across the Sahara Desert hoping to raise at least £2,000 for Crossroad Care in Mid Yorkshire, a charity very close to my heart.
This charity provides carers for many people including my friend’s sister, Elizabeth. Without their ongoing care and support, she and many others like her would have no quality of life or be able to leave the house and visit places. They have trained staff who provide regular breaks to reduce the stress on families who act as carers, and to give them peace of mind.
I will be traveling to Casablanca and then out to the Sahara Desert into one of the most remote and hostile environments on Earth without any contact with the outside world. I will trek the distance of a half marathon every day, covering 100 kilometers of dunes, mountains and gorges. To prepare for this feat of endurance, I have received overwhelming support from friends and family. With their support I have competed in the Hebburn Triathlon, the Great North Cycle and the Great North Run.
I decided to join this trek of just 15 people along with with one of my oldest friends Simon, from Huddersfield, to raise money for his sister’s care.
One day everyone will have to care for a loved one or even be cared for themselves.
