Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This story starts in 2012, the London Olympic year, when I had a strange black mole removed from my shoulder. After tests, it was confirmed as malignant melanoma, although small, following removal in Exeter, a skin graft and lymph node testing the results confirmed it was clear... allegedly.
Wind the clock forward 8 years, just before lockdown in March 2020 I remember sliding into a steep sided bath in a holiday cottage in Norfolk and feeling a large lump on my left shoulder. After a flurry of biopsies, scans, and a raft of medical appointments with professions I didn’t even know existed (gastroenterologists, dermatologists and oncologists), two surgical operations later I received the news I had clear margins of my cancer. Following three months of 3 x week dressing changes I started a course of immunotherapy which finishes at the end of August this year.
Running has been a hobby since my first diagnosis and has frankly kept me sane and healthy throughout my latest treatment but dragging my increasingly creaky bones around 26 miles is going to be a challenge but this charity deserves your support!
So absolute respect for the NHS and in particular to the Sunrise Centre at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske who have offered me constant support, advice, treatment and person centred care x
The funds I raise will help to treat people with cancer in Cornwall rather than having to travel out of county for services like I needed for my first treatment in 2012. Following my second diagnosis all of my treatments have been in Cornwall thanks to the service developments because of this charity.
