Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was intending on setting myself a challenge in order to help get fitter and healthier so from August 1st I will be aiming to run a total of 100 km over the 31 days in order to help raise funds for a community first responders group based in Neilston & Uplawmoor. They are a voluntary group that respond to 999 emergency calls.
The group solely rely on donations and funding to keep operational. The Neilston group responds to emergency calls within the community and have responded to over 2,000 calls since 2014 when they went live. Recently the Neilston and Uplawmoor group were awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in 2018.
Information about the First Responders Group:
We mainly operate in East Renfrewshire & East Ayrshire covering Barrhead, Dunlop, Lugton, Neilston, Shillford, Stewarton & Uplawmoor. We can also called to other areas if required such as Beith, Lochwinnoch, Johnstone, Linwood, Paisley, Thornliebank, Newton Mearns and Irvine.
We were established in July 2013 and we have recruited more than 25 volunteers from the local area. The First Responder Group went live on 4th January 2014 and we have now responded to more than 2000 emergency call outs.
In October 2015, Neilston and Uplawmoor First Responders won the Scottish Ambulance Vision 20/20 Award Taking Care to the Patient. It was fantastic to receive this recognition and we proudly display our winning trophy at our base station.
We are a self funding volunteer group in partnership with the Scottish Ambulance Service and we rely on the generosity of the local community and local business to raise funds to buy our equipment and help pay for our running costs.
A Community First Responder is a member of the public who volunteers to help their community by responding to medical emergencies while the ambulance is on its way.
If you wanted to become a Community First Responder you would be trained in a wide range of emergency skills, and use specialised equipment such as automatic external defibrillators and oxygen therapy. You would then be able to provide an early intervention in situations such as a heart or asthma attack before the professional ambulance crew arrives. This improves patient survival and recovery.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
