Story
Me, James Froggatt and Nathan Shirtcliffe will be doing the 3 peaks challenge this year on 8th of June with Josh Yewman driving. This challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales which are Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mt Snowdon within 24 hours. We are doing this on behalf of Alzheimer’s Society. Sadly, my nana passed away this year after living with dementia for around 3 years. Not only was she the most caring person I have ever known and would have done anything to put a smile on your face, even though she was in a lot of pain through arthritis .When signs of dementia started to show, it almost felt that she was getting taken away from us, with most off her characteristics being lost. I would’ve done anything to get the old her back, but currently there’s nothing to reduce the symptoms of the disease. After being so close to my nana, the feeling that she doesn’t recognize you is heartbreaking. Although there was some funny moments, there were many more which were upsetting, knowing that it simply just wasn’t her. Not only does it have an impact on the person them self, I cannot put into words how much it affects the people around them. The feeling that you can’t do anything to help, except from watch her stories and memories pass away, is the worst feeling in the world. Alzheimer’s Society offers information, care and support to people with dementia, their families and friends, alongside extensive research for ways to cure, prevent and to understand the causes of dementia.
